MY STORY

Let me tell you a little bit about my passion in forging. Some time ago, a good friend gifted me my first good japanese chef’s knife. For the first time I held a really sharp knife in my hand while cooking. It was a feeling I wouldn´t want to miss anymore. It doesn’t matter whether it’s sweet potatoes, pumpkins or tomatoes, everything could suddenly be cut effortlessly. But one thing always bothered me about this knife… its simple design. So came up the desire to forge my own kitchen knives and to design them according to my ideas. So, the plan was made. I wanted to forge a functional knife with minimal tooling equipment. Ultimately, I was probably the one who was most surprised by the result of my first forging session. With the help of a little book research and YouTube tutorials, I actually managed to handcraft a well cutting and, above all, beautifully designed chef’s knife. After this one and the next knives were well received by my friends, I decided to continue forging.

MY PASSION

Since then, I’ve always been looking for the next project that pushes the boundaries of the previous one even further. The desire to push my design and manufacturing quality to the top continues to motivate me. My self-declared goal is to make each knife something unique, something that is more than just an inanimate object.
Of course, this not only applies to the look, but at least as much to the performance. Because what use is the most beautiful chef’s knife if it doesn’t cut properly?

MY STANDARDS

The most beautiful thing about forging, however, is the feeling of having created something that brings joy to others. That’s why every knife I make is given the time it takes to live up to its full potential. Sometimes the completion of a single knife cane take up to 30-40 hours. The result of these efforts is a knife that is meant to be passed on to future generations.

For heat treatment I use special hardening oil (preheated of course) or water and a hardening oven, which works very precisely (+-2 degrees Celsius). In addition, I only use high- performance steels and the best raw materials.
For sharpening I use Japanese whetstones, on which I sharpen from 600 to 1000 to 3000 to 5000 to 8000 to 12000 grit and finally hone with a leather. A razor-sharp cutting edge is therefore guaranteed! All knives also come in a gift box with a certificate of authenticity and care instructions. The sketches of your knife are also included in the delivery.

Sustainability

Aside from forging new knives, the topic of sustainability is also important to me! That’s why I created the REVIVE-Series. Some of these are made of really old original Japanese knife blades that have already had to suffer blade breakage, rust or similar in the course of their lives. In lengthy manual work, I restore the blades to a new condition and breathe a second life into them. I then put the whole thing to completion by putting my special design on it. I invested a lot of time into the developing of a durable patina and the blade finish. After several failures, the perfect result finally emerged, a long-lasting patina that is also stunningly beautiful to look at.
The exact steel type of the blades will probably remain a secret forever. What is certain, however, is that these are extremely high quality carbon steel blades that were forged from either Aogami or Shirogami.
The REVIVE series is a kind of a fusion of the historic and traditional Japanese craftsmanship with my fresh and modern design.

On top, in general, I try to use local materials only, which is why most of
my wood is actually coming from the black forest in Germany for example.
